A basement is no longer just a storage space. More and more, it is being transformed into a fully functional living area, such as a wine cellar, guest room, or mancave. To make full use of this space, it is essential to ensure that the basement is completely waterproof. Here, you’ll find tips and products to help you achieve a fully waterproof basement.
Step 1: Repair damage and prepare the surface
Before you can start waterproofing your basement walls, it’s crucial to properly prepare the surface and repair any cracks, gaps, or crumbling concrete using the right products. The surface must be stable, strong, dust-free, and free from any substances that could affect adhesion. Cracks and holes make the wall particularly vulnerable to water infiltration, so these areas must be treated first. Use Weber Fast Cement 1 Min. Water Stop if you are dealing with an active water leak.
Step 2: Prevent rising damp
To ensure that moisture does not continue to rise through the basement walls, inject the wall with a water-repellent barrier to block rising damp effectively.
Step 3: Protect the corners
After waterproofing the basement walls and/or floor, it is advisable to first seal the joints between the walls and the floor. These areas are particularly prone to water penetration. Use Weber Waterproof Plaster Mortar, which is resistant to all types of water pressure and easy to apply.
Step 4: Apply the waterproofing layer
Now that the basement walls are properly prepared, it’s time to apply the waterproofing layer. How can you ensure a perfectly waterproof basement? We recommend using Weber Waterproof Plaster Mortar. Once the corners are sealed, apply a waterproofing layer to the walls. Then, finish with a protective top layer to safeguard the waterproofing.
