Penetrating damp occurs when moisture infiltrates the outer shell of a building, moves through the cavity, and continues toward the interior walls. This phenomenon is most common with porous or damaged exterior walls. In cases of penetrating damp, both the exterior and interior walls need to be addressed. The interior wall should be repaired, for example, using waterproof plaster mortar. The exterior wall can be treated by applying an impregnation layer, which prevents moisture from passing through while still allowing the wall to breathe.
